The Greater Hartford Pro-Am was founded by Peter Higgins after being introduced to the Hampton Roads Pro-Am while residing in Norfolk, Virginia. Once he returned to his

hometown of Hartford, CT Mr. Higgins saw a tremendous opportunity to run a successful summer Pro-Am league especially since, in 1997, the State of Connecticut was in a frenzy over the success of the women’s and men’s UConn basketball teams. So, Mr. Higgins put up his own money, gathered the best ball players he could, including Marcus Camby, Vin Baker and…oh yes…an up and coming NBA champion named Ray Allen…and made the magic of the Greater Hartford Pro-Am come alive at Hartford High.

Since then, Mr. Higgins has welcomed many stars and future stars, national and international, at professional, college, and high school levels to Hartford, CT to play in the Greater Hartford Pro-Am. Watching these elite players play together has been a treat for thousands of residents from Greater Hartford and beyond.

One of the GHPA proudest accomplishments however, has been the success of the community and youth outreach programs started as an effort to give back to the communities that have been growing great athletes in parks, schools, and recreation centers for years. The response is clear. The GHPA annual youth basketball tournaments, clinics, workshops, and most recently after-school programs has made Peter Higgins and the GHPA team an essential part of Greater Hartford Community.

And they are here to stay.
